September 11, 2007 by Corporate & Community Education
The second round of pre-employment training In Union County began Monday, Sept. 10th, from 6-9pm, at the Union County Career Technology Training Center (UCCTC), with instructors from Spartanburg Community College Corporate and Community Education (CSS-C&CE). Thirty students are enrolled in the current session, and an additional thirty are slated to take the third training in January.
Robert Grady of the UCCTC says “We are excited about this first cross-over training with Spartanburg Community College in many years. We are happy to offer this kind of training to the community. We hope to offer more such classes and eventually to have our own satellite campus in Union County. “
The UCCTC facility has provided a renovated lab area for the pre-employment classes until the new training facility can be built. A full size industrial robot donated by BMW is now in place at the UCCTC, and is being put in operation for the apprenticeship training. In addition, full-range but small-size, table-top robotic trainers will be added in separate labs areas in the training facility.
Highway 176 west of Union is the site chosen for the new industrial training facility, which will be built across the street from the LSP, Inc. plant. Instruction will be provided by both USC-Union (academic) and SCC-C&CE (technical). This location will provide easy access for students from the area, and for companies to schedule workforce development training.
The first training session concluded with a job fair representing LSP, Inc, Timken, and Sunoco, among others. Thirty students are enrolled in the current session, and an additional thirty are slated to take the third training in January.
