During March, SCC faculty and staff will be wearing buttons with the cryptic message S^w/QEP? *For the non-texters among our readers, the headline means “What’s Up with QEP?” The idea is to encourage students to ask about the buttons and for staff to share about the Quality Enhancement Plan for SCC this year.
The Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) is the regional agency that accredits schools and colleges. Their accreditation process maintains standards and compliance with standards, which allows one college to accept the credits earned at another college and allows some kinds of financial aid to be offered to students.
Part of the accreditation procress is a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP specifically addresses Spartanburg Community College’s commitment to student learning as well strive toimporve the pocess 0by which stend acquire skills, knowledge and appributes needed to complegte college goals, pursue careers, and become lifelong learners and responsible citizens. SCC’s QEP is to improve students’ communication skills as a step to improving their work readiness. Each full-time employee has QEP related objectives in their annual assessment. Several activities are planned to give SCC faculty and staff more awareness of the skills they need to improve communication skills:
-
Feb. 29 Look Before You Leap: What You Should Know about the College’s Data workshop
-
March TBA Research Techniques workshop
-
April 11 Technical and Business Writing workshop
Implementation of the College’s QEP is expected to improve the College’s planning and evaluation procedures.
