Freemasonry & Brotherhood in the War between the States
May 3, 2008 by Corporate & Community Education
Steve Whittaker presents an 8-hour study of Freemasonry in the world, especially as it has been expressed in the US during our early history. The class refers to the books A House Divided by Allan Roberts and Freemasons at Gettysburg by Sheldon A. Munn. The first class will consider the earliest Lodges in the colonies and the Masonic Reaction to the coming War between the States. The second class will consider the Masonic view of the war from Northern and Southern perspectives to the end of 1861. The third class will continue the discussion through 1865, including acts of charity by Masons on the battlefield and in POW camps. Participants are encouraged to research their Masonic connections. The final class considers the events after the war and present-day reenactments by Masons.
