Spartanburg Community College’s Corporate & Community Education Division has partnered with Career Source to connect local employers with qualified candidates for training opportunities in NCCER Millwright at a recruiting fair on the SCC Tyger River Campus on Wednesday, September 1.
“This is a great chance for the unemployed and those seeking a new career to explore new job opportunities in this high-demand and high growth field,” says Mike Forrester, interim director of the Corporate & Community Education Division. “Candidates will also be able to speak with Career Source representative to find out if they qualify for WIA/QuickJobs Training funds.”
Individuals trained as millwrights work with machines and heavy equipment to perform installations, repairs and replacements as well as assemble new equipment. They use blueprints and have a working knowledge of construction materials. Millwrights can specialize in motor vehicle parts manufacturing, building equipment or nonresidential building construction.
The NCCER Millwright program at SCC can be completed in five months and is funded through a grant from QuickJobs of South Carolina. Classes begin in September.
Upon successful completion of a program, graduates can be considered for job vacancies with a variety of Upstate employers through Career Source.
Representatives from SCC and Career Source will attend the fair to explain eligibility requirements as well as tuition assistance opportunities. Candidates accepted into the training program may be sponsored by a QuickJobs grant.
The recruiting fair will be held in the BMW Center on the SCC Tyger River Campus in Duncan on Wednesday, September 1. Two morning informational sessions will be held – at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – in room 311 of the BMW Center.
