Spartanburg Community College (SCC) is calling for entries in the SCC Downtown Campus Art Competition, which is open to the general public, students, faculty and staff. The College is seeking an iconic image of the new Evans Academic Center, formerly known as the Evans Building, to commemorate the grand opening of the Downtown Campus and the College’s 50th anniversary this fall.
The historic Evans Building was originally constructed in 1921 and expanded in 1925 with grand architectural features from this period that included adorned bay windows, decorative brickwork, stone detailing, ornate balustrades, arched entryways and majestic granite steps. Since August, SCC has been renovating the building to restore it to its original grandeur and to comply with present building codes. The official new street address for the Evans Academic Center is 220 East Kennedy Street.
Any two- or three-dimensional artist renderings will be accepted and blind-judged by a panel of SCC faculty, staff and students. The winning entry will receive a $500 cash prize, and the artwork will be used for SCC’s promotional materials. The second place winner will receive a $100 prize, and one honorable mention will receive a $50 prize. All participating artists may also offer their submissions for display and sale at SCC’s Downtown Campus grand opening festivities to be announced.
Entries must be submitted by Monday, April 29, 2013 to the SCC Foundation Office in the Dan L. Terhune Student Services Building on the SCC central campus in Spartanburg, located off Business I-85 and New Cut Road.
