This course will show you how to improve the academic achievement of at risk learners in the learning environment by teaching you the seven factors that disable disadvantage learners when compared to their peers. You will learn solutions through positive classroom climate, teaching sustainable content, and producing excitement from learners who are at risk of failing. You will be able to develop student engagement strategies that are tied to socioeconomic status and you will also learn how to build your student’s capacity to think and focus along with process and recall of content.
Required textbook for students: Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind: Practical Strategies for Raising Achievement (can be purchased in college Book Inn)
When: 3/7 – 4/11; Saturdays, 9 am – 12 pm
Differentiated Instruction & The Diverse Classroom
This course will show you how to differentiate the learning environment for students in a mixed ability classroom. You will implement instructional strategies and create a plan of action on how to build a differentiated classroom for today’s learners. This course is designed for participants who teach children of all levels with various learning abilities (to include: English Language Learners, Gifted Education Learners and At-Risk Learners).
When: 4/25 – 6/6; Saturdays, 8 am – 12 pm
