In this course you will be introduced to a fast moving, hands-on, entry-level look at the history, rationale and fundamental principles of lean manufacturing. You will take a walk through the 8 Muda (or wastes) that recounts the trials and tribulations of the fictional Whacker Hammer Company. The 5-S portion includes several hands-on exercises that demonstrate the value of setting up and maintaining an orderly workplace. Your class culminates with a production simulation that allows student teams to put what they have learned into practice to manufacture a product dubbed “Hickema Jigs”. By the end of this training you be oriented to the basic concepts of lean as well as being convinced that “This Stuff Works”. Key concepts: JIT, Kanban, Kaizen, Push/Pull Manufacturing, Standard Work, Cellular Manufacturing, Value-Added-vs-Non-Value Added Activities.
